Figuring It Out

When I was in the closet I was by most counts a pretty conservative guy.  Married to a good woman, two children, house in the suburbs, a dog and two cars in the garage.  I went to church, I didn't drink, smoke or use drugs.  I was miserable!
Now I am married to the most wonderful man in the world, between us we have five children and five grandchildren, we have a house in the suburbs, a dog, two cats and a 27 year old child living with us. I go to church. I am happier than I could ever imagine.

What changed?  I acknowledged that I was gay!

By all standard societal measures my life wasn't pretty good.

As a LBG(Late Breaking Gay) I am glad I figured out life before I was too old to enjoy it.

Religious Guilt for Late Breaking Gays

I was a Southern Baptist preacher.
My husband was in Catholic Seminarian.

Guess what?  We both dealt with guilt.

I know that is a shock.

But after we came out - we got past the guilt.

Think of the people who have stayed in the closet way too long - they feel guilty and horrible.  They feel like monsters.  They feel perverse.

Come out - come out wherever you are - you will feel better.

Slip Sliding Away

Tick, Tock, Tick!
What are you waiting on?

I know I was waiting on:
the kids to move out,
the house to be paid for,
a better job.

Excuses!

Just take care of yourself.

Everything and everyone else will take care of itself!

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle said it in "Slip Sliding Away"

And I know a father who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons for the things he'd done
He came a long way just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and he headed home again

Whoah God only knows, God makes his plan
The information's unavailable to the mortal man

My friend, as a LBG (Late-Breaking-Gay) you will not get any younger, you will not get better looking, your kids will not get to a point where they will understand any better, and your wife will never understand.

Just do it!

Coming Out at Fifty - Ten Years Later

So what was I expecting exactly?

Honestly when I came out at fifty I thought that
I was ruining my life.  I thought that I was making the biggest mistake of my life.  I was sure that I was too old to come out.  I figured that I would never have a date with a man, let alone have gay sex.  It never occurred to me, NEVER, that I could be in a loving stable relationship with a wonderful caring, sexy, handsome husband.
Now, ten years later I am happier than I have been in my life.

My friend, if you are reading this from your "closet" I can tell you, life is going to be all right.  Be a LBG (Late-Breaking-Gay).  If you are able to unlock the door and walk away one last time you will survive.

You will be happy.
You will feel free.
You will find new reasons to live.
You will sleep better.
You will know you are honest.

Coming out of the closet will not fix everything but you won't be as worried about everything else.

Birthdays and Dick Dancers

I had the most amazing birthday party.  It was my 60th!  I had told my husband that all I wanted for my birthday was a party with our friends: A Great Big Gay Birthday Party.  And OMG did he ever come through.  The house looked great and there was wonderful food and more than enough adult beverages.  My husband made it into a wonderful evening.

Included in the plan was a little entertainment: a Dick Dancer.  We made arrangements with one of our favorite Dick Dancers and asked one of our friends to pick him up on his way to the party.  Alas it was not to be.  The dancer bailed at the last minute.
Now my party wasn’t intended to be an orgy.  But I wanted it to be really gay.  Not gay in a “rainbow flag” sort of way, but rather gay in a “we all love hot sexy men” sort of way.  So I was disappointed when our entertainment canceled at the last minute.  I am not trying to be 18 again, I just love being in the company of men.

But here is where it gets really awesome.  One of my friends at the party heard about the loss of our entertainment and he volunteered to fill in.  Now this young man is very good looking.  He is in his 30’s with thick dark hair, a good build and a great dick.   He came out of the bedroom dressed in my bathrobe and my partner’s hat.  He swayed and strutted to the music and slowly shed the robe to reveal a black thong.  Several of my friends who didn’t know him just assumed he was the scheduled entertainment.
I am very fortunate to have a wonderful partner and wonderful friends.  As a “Late Breaking Gay” I was really afraid that I would never have these kinds of experiences and friends let alone an amazing partner.  It is never too late to be true to yourself.

Almost Christmas

It is three days before Christmas.

For the last few years past Chirstmas has been hard for me.  I have mised my kids and grandkids and have felt guilty about being so far away from them.  Plus Christmas brings back so many memories of Christmas' past.

But tonight our house is snug and warm and the presents are wraped and the decorations are out and it feels very good.

I think it is a matter of building new traditions.  As I write this my husband is in the kitchen starting dinner and Christmas music is playing in the background.  It is a wonderful mixture of the parts of old traditions that I loved and building new ones with the man that I love.

Life is good!
Merry Christmas everyone.

Forever 18

One of the most wonderful and unexpected aspects of being a Late Breaking Gay (LBG) is that, in regards to sex, I am forever 18. Really! I know that sounds pretty presumptuous but it is really like that.

This is a condition that has been confirmed by many other men. (Please feel free to comment on this here if you like.) In fact I have one friend that has a formula for every decade that you are over 30 when you come out subtract one year from 20 and that is the sexual age that you are for the rest of your life. So I was two decades past 20, so 20 - 2 = 18.

It is like all of the gay sex that I didn't get for 40 years has just been stored up. When I came out, my gay sex age was still right where it should have started. OK I will be specific about this. Not only do I want sex every day (or a couple times a day) but sex can last for hours and I have multiple (5 or 6) every time I have sex. It isn't bragging if it is a fact and I have witnesses.

So many men, so much sex, so little time.

Confessions of a Late Breaking Gay

That's me, a late breaking gay.

My definition of a LBG: Lived straight and narrow (well not all the time) for most of my life and
then came charging out of the closet late in life.

My first purpose here is to talk about that experience and my experiences since.

My second purpose is to develop a community of men who share that experience.

I think we have a lot to say to one another and I hope to grow from that sharing.

So let the story telling begin!
